So better in terms of what? Durrock has a higher r-value. But I think hardiboard is easier to work with in terms of laying tile. As long as you meet the required r-values and clearances either will be fine.

Makes sense. Thanks for the advice. Cool, I just found a supplier of 1/2" brick veneer to go on the Durock!
