Wanna make $10?

I need small samples of different biomass pellets.

I'll send you $10, either snail mail or Paypal, for a small USPS Priority Mail box (about a quart or so) of any biomass pellets EXCEPT wood.

I need anything biomass that can burn...poop, coal, leaf, grass...if it's pelletized and will burn in a pellet stove, I'll give you $10 for a sample of it....let me know (email or PM) what you have/use and I'll work out payment. And first come, first paid. I'll let you know if you have something unique I need more of.

I've been tapped to display my stove at a local Earth Day celebration, and I'd like to make a display of the different types of biomass that this thing can burn. I've got corn, hard and soft wood pellets, but a few other types will really showcase the display. A small amount, say a quart or so (small flat rate box will run you under $6 to ship) will make both a visual and tactile display people can run their hands through.

Let me know what you have, how you want paid, and we'll go from there.

That's easier than the last time I tried to make 10 bucks. I would contact Cornell co op in New York State. I worked with them a while back trying to develop pellets out of many types of "grasses", switch grass, rye also leaves, etc. They may be happy to help you out if they are still working with that program. Maybe ask for free pellets and you provide them with some feedback?

Just as a side note, the request is for physical samples to display on "Earth Day", not burn/test.
I'm using commercially available wood pellets to heat my house....nothing even in the plans to test anything else.
I'll let the guys who builds these for a living worry about what they'll burn.
I'm just showcasing a possibility at this event....what I was told was "showing a 'mindset' of employees concerns for the environment".

(I'm no longer interested in building these for anything more than just a shed/greenhouse heater.
Too much bullshit involved dealing with .gov, .org and most .public.
And waaaaay too many idiots to try to idiotproof that even idiot-resistant engineering is a lost cause.)

WE have been using all different sorts of fuels in testing on our stoves for quite some time. Let me save you a few bucks in postage and point out some duds;
With biomass you have 2 points to bear in mind- Ash and Energy.
Everyone wants something from nothing and it just dont happen. Just because you can jamb material into a pellet doesn't mean it will be any good as a fuel.
Forget ANY grass or stalk - way too much ash and hardly any energy. Switchgrass, corn stalk whatever it is all bull. It works in industrial walking grate burners but just forget it for domestic use.
Further to that we have found that pelletising grains like corn and wheat actually reduces the performance. I don't know why but I can tell you honestly corn pellets are much harder to burn than corn kernels.
Looking t your burn pot it appears to work similarily to the Wiseway. You can see from their experience that fuel quality is paramount. Using biofuel pellets will just give you giant headaches. Don't get blindsided with trying to make hokey fuels work; stay focussed on the main game of pellet burning performance.
You will see that Wiseway has UL testing at 2.5gms (I think) this will be too high for future certification. We have a limit of 1gm which we can achieve with our conventional multi-fuel stoves. You will end up at this regulation in the future, you need to work towards this. Bear in mind that the best we ever achieved with corn and wheat was 1.9gms which shows that when when regulations eventually catch up biomass other than pine wood pellets will be verboten.
I know it is great to fool around stuffing all different types of fuel into your baby but you have such a fantastically cheap, quality fuel source in pine pellets you are wasting your time to try anything else. If your pellets were $1,000/ton like they are here then, sure, play the fuel field. When you can get them for $300 just tell anyone who wants you to try different to do it themselves because you havent got the time or inclination.
I will personally guarantee you that you will waste 100s of hours with all this other rubbish and then see my point that for your stove pellets are king.

I can handle all of that out here. Can't speak for what you guys have to deal with. You get the design right and I can make em no sweat, would be a handy little income for ya.

Yeah, that's me. Good friend and 'public figure' was speaking that day, and I 'took' the stage before him. Some NPC folks weren't too happy that I took the photo-op, but when they found out what I did for our public figure friend, they let it slide. THAT was a good day.

I have some hop pellets( for beer brewing) that are pretty old that I'm not going to use. I wonder if or how they would burn. Hops contain natural oils, I wonder what would happen if burned. Interested?
