Water treatment for "open" boilers seems get very little band width. If you are running and open system what are you using for water treatment, and how often are you testing?
 
There are some folks here with Garn boilers that have posted regarding water treatment. Some of those threads might have a little more insight.
 
I have a closed system and my water is treated and tested annually. Wood boiler solutions in Waupon, WI is the company I use. It is also the company that Garn uses.
