Is there a specific type you should get for applying the chimney top plate and sealing the gap between the SS liner and top plate or will this work? (pics attached). it says the service temp is -60 to 400F and while the stove is burning outside of that range, Iwouldn't think the temp would be that high at the chimney exit... thoughts?

That will work fine to seal down the top plate.

It will not make a permanent seal between the liner and the plate though. Honestly, nothing will do a very good job. The temps are too high for silicone, and with the rapid expansion and contraction furnace cement will just crumble and fall out. Just leave that small gap alone, it'll be fine.

I like GE Silicone II (window and door) for the top plate. I've peeled a top plate off after 10 yrs and it was still bonding well. Some folks use Mill-Pac for the tiny gap around the liner. It's rated at 1050. I haven't tried it.

In my experince it would not work very well it is good at sealing pretty tight fitting joints but not good at filling any gaps. It will fall out pretty quickly
