I have a stand alone wood stove (Jotul Rangeley) set in a large fireplace. I pulled the stove out into the room as much as I could. Most of the stove chimney is inside the house chimney. I'd like to do the best I can to move the warmed air around the house.

Right now I have corner doorway fans and a large fan fan pointing at the stove from a few feet away. That fan sitting in the middle of the room looks out of place and gets in the way.

Those of you with similar set ups, are you using stove fan attachments or ceiling fans, or floor fans to move the air from the stove around the house?

Thanks.

Blow the cooler room's air toward the stove with a fan down low on the floor. It's often more effective.

Thanks. I'll try that tonight.

Do you have a block-off plate in that chimney above the stove, and insulation stuffed around the liner at the top of the chimney? (you do have a full stainless liner in the chimney, right?) Ceiling fans are very effective at mixing (destratifying) the air in the space where they reside. They will tend to even out the temp throughout by continually mixing the hot air that tends to collect at the ceiling with the cooler air below. Ceilings fans do basically nothing as far as moving air horizontally out of the space goes. If there is a stove-mounted fan option available for your stove, it would be very effective at moving heated air out into the space. Rick

Thanks Rick. I do have the top stuffed with Roxul, and a block-off plate and Roxul at the bottom too.

I think the blower attachment for the stove was ~$300. I could be remembering wrong, but the stove store didn't seem to rate the fan attachment too much when I was getting the stove. Maybe I'll reinvestigate the fan attachment.

A variable speed blower on the stove would make a big difference, I think. Maybe with a part # you could find one on eBay and install it yourself for less than $300.
