What dimension size will fit my current fireplace?

Hi,

I need to purchase a new fireplace. The one I currently have is 34"w by 36" high. It is an Insta-flame DV34RN. I spoke to a dealer who said the Lennox Merit Plus (MPDR33RNM ) will work as a replacement. Below are the dimensions he gave me:

Viewing Area (Glass Size): 27 1/2” W x 17" H

Overall Dimension: 33 1/8” W x 30 1/8" H x 13” D

Framing Dimension: 33 1/4” W x 33 1/4" H x 13 1/2” D

The height is 6" less then what I currently have. I will have a gas fitter installer it but I would like to know how the 6" gap is filled. If you have any information, I would appreciate. I did not grow up with natural gas. This is the first home I have owned that has a gas fireplace as the main heat source so I am trying to make sure I am doing everything right.

Ordinarily, a gas fireplace will have sheetrock attached to the 2x4 framing lumber on all sides.
You will have to check you manual to see if you can use that.
ON some installs, you need to use Micore attached to steel studs...
