What do you think of the Craftsbury?

My wife and I are going to order our first wood stove tommorow. We live in a 1300 square foot, ranch style, home in Nebraska. The stove will go in our huge living room. I am guessing with our floor plan that we will have trouble getting heat to the back of the house but we are going to try. I have access to all of the white ash that I can burn and it is only 7 miles from my house so the wood is not a problem. What do you guys think of the Craftsbury stove by Hearthstone? For looks I don't think it can be beat and as far as the size goes I think that it is about right for our situation.

If anyone has any experience with this stove or a good on-line place to order from let me know. Our local dealer can get the stove in matte black for just under $1000.

I got the Craftsbury last year and love it. I am thinking of getting another to replace an old coal stove I have.

Once you get used to it and understand how it works its great. The modern stoves are not like the old ones. The secondary burn chambers take some figuring to get right. I use a propane torch to light some kindling, leaving the door open a crack. When it gets going I throw in some bigger pieces, leaving the door open until they get going. I found I had to put a damper in the flue pipe as my draft was to strong. I do not get an overnight burn ( I go to bed early) but the chunks of char-coal left in the stove light easily with the propane stove, so I don't even need kindling. I ope the ash door. light the char-coal and let it get red hot then throw in some wood, open the front door a little and let things get going until I close it all up.

That's an nice price for that stove. Sounds nice, though you may need to push it hard when the temps drop. It gets pretty cold in NE

Once the stove is installed and burning try putting a fan at the entrance to the back of the house - blowing towards the stove. That often works to start equalizing room temps.

Where are you at in Nebraska, and where are you getting your stove? We bought ours in Kearney and are hoping for install before Christmas.
