Question:

are wood stove burn times EPA rated or something the manufacturer comes up with? One manufacturer claims their mid-size non-catalytic stove will burn up to 12 hours- hard to believe. What exactly does the EPA rate?

Answer:

The EPA does not rate burn times. This is a guess by the maker, and should be viewed with some caution. Catalytic stoves, however, can burn for log period..but 12 hours might be stretching it.

EPA accredited labs tests for clean burning at 4 different burning rates..from very low to high. This assures that your stove will work well in most winter weather.
