The tree has distinctive smell, very "fibery" inside. Bark flakes getting bigger near the top .
Yeah , now it make sense. I had same kind of tree that was cut in rounds 6 to 8" with no bark sitting outside for a year , I split it and had it outside for another year and it's still very heavy and moist. I dealt with red oak before, I assumed white oak is the same , just white , not reddish. Now I knowGive it three years and it'll burn great

White oak without a doubt. Save those little shredded pieces for kindling and fire starters.
