Question:

We need help! we're looking for the best stove insert. Every salesman says his is the best! who's right? We've looked at these companies for our wood insert, Avalon, england stove works, vermont casting. who has the most efficient stove to put out heat and burn little wood as possible? Do we need a converter? Does convection work the same as converter? Thanks for the advice, we're so confused.

Answer:

Well, just as with many things (cars, boats, stereos, etc), there really is no BEST one. I've had a lot of experience with Avalon, and can say that you would not make a mistake if you choose this brand. If you are looking for the most heat, get the model which extends onto the hearth . This assures more radiant and convection heat.

There is information about the differences between catalytic and non-cat stoves at https://www.hearth.com/what/specific.html - but, in summary, either technology will server you well - you do not "need" a catalytic.
