Question:
What should I do when I would like to go to bed but the fire is still burning in my fireplace. Is it safe to close the doors and let it burn out in my absence ? Do you have any safety tips re: leaving an unattended fire in a fireplace ?
Answer:
Make certain the fire is relatively low, down to mostly embers, then close the doors and everything will be OK. A greater degree of safety can be achieved by making certain there are no combustibles (newspapers, etc.) around the hearth and by extending the hearth with a fire proof rug (available in Fireplace Shops)
