I want to extend my terracotta flue before getting the new liner in. It's 13 by 13. I have three flues and the middle should be extended or cut to fit certain top plate I like.
I did a quick online search and didn't see anything on sale. is there some specializing local store I should be looking for?
Thanks.

[Hearth.com] Where can I get 13by 13 Terracotta flue?
This is my current setup. I want to use the same top plate as on the right. Do you think adding one more terracotta tile would be feasible in this situation? As a side benefit that will extend my liner that's on the short side. Thanks.

It's generally not a good idea to have an upstair wood burner flue terminate at the same height as a basement or lower floor one. Smoke can siphon from one down the other. The upper floor one should be extended 12-18".

You can pretty easily cut the new terra cotta. I did it as my 2 flues were at the same height. I cut it about 1/3 to get 2 different length pieces. Then mortared them in place.

The terra cotta on my chimney was only just above the crown, so i built the crown up to cover part of the new terra cotta pieces.

Yeah, it actually happened couple of times, but not too often

What did you use to mortar it?

I want to install the terracotta and chimney extender. Is it ok to have terracotta 12-inch exposed completely? My chimney is only 13 ft. So I'm battling for every inch

I'm not a chimney expert. my 9"x12" terracotta piece came in a 3 ft. section i think.
I used regular mortar i think? Premix bag.

Full exposed flue? not sure about that? You might be able to use some sort of collar?
If it's only a foot maybe no big deal, but if you are going thru the trouble i'd at least try for 2 feet. terracotta.

Good idea about the collar, as the old one is beat up and has RTV silicone on it. I wish I could do the silicon instead of cement.
Any ideas for the collar ?

My tenant made a 6 to 8 inch tall plywood collar just screwed together for the exposed joint of an added 2' tall 6x6" terracotta flue tile and it lasted for 15 plus years before it rotted away.
I highly doubt that it meets any code in any way but the concept works.
I doubt the chimney guys would recommend this though?
