So in the off season I will be lining my masonry chimney, it is a 7" square id flue and it is not straight, there is an offset in it 3 tiles down from the top. So in order to be able to run an insulated liner I am going to go with 5.5 instead of 6. My question is where can I get a 5.5 brush? I looked at chimney liner depot because that's where I'm gonna get the liner from and they only had 5 and 6.I once trimmed down a 6" brush to fit a 5" pipe and it isn't an experience that I care to repeat.

Could try a sooteater. I picked on up recently and they work great.

Thanks brother Bart, I knew you would know........... Any tips for a first timer on installing this liner? This is not a fireplace install but a "thimble" install.

You could also try to cut a 1/4 inch off the ends off a 6 inch. It would take time but it worked for me.

I cut ours down like supersurvey did. It about gave me blisters (those poly are tough), but it did the trick.

I just use a six inch pre-fab chimney brush. Softer bristles but a whole bunch of'em.

Some of those 5.5" ones are just really 6" brushes. I bought one (can't remember from where) and it ended up being 6" and way to tight of a fit on my 5.5" liner. Got it stuck. Ended up trimming it down with a large pair of tin snips. PITA. Worse because I bought the heavy duty one apparently and was much more bristles than the standard ones. Also I recently removed the liner and noticed several wraps of the inner spiral metal liner were peeled up slightly and sticking out an inch or so into the center. Not sure if that happened the initial time it got stuck or since then. Not sure if I should consider that liner ruined. Not even 3 yrs out of it.

That is a common problem with the two ply smooth wall liners. De-lamination. The brush didn't do it. Often happens as soon as the liner is uncoiled. The heat exacerbates it.

I tossed mine after one season and replaced it with single wall.

Call rutland- they will special order any size brush-just about same cost retail- I ordered a 5.5 poly
