Which new budget stove?

I am replacing a Kent tile fire that has seen better days in a house that I recently bought. The house is an old farm house from the 1870s, 1275 sqft, with the stove in the basement, adding another 350 sqft. It's fairly drafty but has been insulated the best it can for a 150 year old house. I'm located in Central NY, lots of snow wind and cold. I have 6in, 30ft ss chimney liner in an existing masonry chimney.

My budget is $1000. I've been scouring Craigslist and haven't really found anything. Besides some old rough looking timber lines and a couple dutchwest stoves.

I'm trying to find a stove that will take an 18" log as all my wood I cut is 18" for the Kent. I just need a stove for a few years until I can replace it with a wood furnace which is out of the budget right now? I'd like to have a stove asap. I'm tired of burning propane.

I have the Summers Heat 50-SHSSW01 I'm liking it so far, clearances are nice, hearth protection required is minimal, and the fire view through the big glass is real nice. For the price it's hard to beat especially since you plan on replacing it. As for the US stove, i'd avoid that or any other model and wish someone had given me that advice. (wish i'd found this site before i had bought the stove) any stove you purchase though is going to want to burn good dry wood.

If you only want a stove for 3 or 4 seasons then buy US Stove, if you want longevity and something that is built like a tank and made in America go with England stove company aka Summer heat at lowes. Stick with the 3 cu range since your fighting a drafty house.

I would look at the Englander 30NC, especially if the floor is cement. And for a bit more $ look at the Drolet HT2000.

If you are buying anything from England Stoves do a really good inspection before buying. The quality varies greatly stove to stove.

The 30NC has been out for over a decade. We see almost no complaints about the quality or construction of this stove, nor with most Englander products. The hinge issue is serious, but it appears to be limited to their newest stove.
