Bought one of the new Condar wood saver pipe thermometers. I also have the chimgard that I think is the same thing as their stove top thermometers but with different zones. The Wood Saver doesn't have all the numbers the chimgard does, it has the burning zones and it also has a smaller coil in back. I like the black and silver color better than the multi colored.

I prefer the numbered (multicolor) one, more and better info with it. But thats just me.

I think the black and silver one is more "aesthetically" pleasing....
it looks "slick"...
the other one looks cheap....think it is the color combination...

Being a newbie, I think I would like to see some temp numbers....till I get more experienced...

looks like th eblack and silver ones for dumb people that dont know what numbers mean anyhow. im not much for the rainbow flag colors on the others either, i think it should just have numbers in black and silver and then in the overburn area have red numbers and the pointer be red too.

Hmmmmm ...what color are your eyes?

They can be what ever color you like big boy! ;-)

Only problem I see with the Woodsaver is my flue temps are so low I'm in the black creosote zone most of the burn. I go from 300 down to 200 after a few hours. I know i'm fine and burning clean but it kinda bugs me.

Put the black and gray on your stove top. It will read in the range that will not bug ya.

There are several companies that sell black and silver stove thermometers with numbers. SBI/Drolet, Morso, Voglezang, Imperial, etc.

The numbered one. You need the numbers and the zones are "smarter" on the numbered one to correspond with Class A limits.

I like the black and silver colors but the numbers are more important.

I know these things aren't always known for being spot on with the numbers . . . but I like numbers vs. zones . . . I find the black and white one prettier, but the one with numbers more useful for my purposes.

I thought it was condar but after a busted meter from the USA I find by experience that the plain old rutland meters are better.

I kinda dislike the brown yellow orange red, scheme to be honest. Kind of reminds me of 1970's and my wood bag made with material from then too. I got a chimguard with the stove. But i wanted a better look, condar makes a black and gold model, no ranges just numbers, called the medallion. I have that for a stovetop then a probe for the T behind the flue exit. I bought their Celsus meter due to its black silver and red. I dont mind reading in C, it does have F too. Youll notice too that say 300 TO 400 C ends up being the same in F on a magnetic surface themo. Give or take due to converstions.

Even though these specify cat models could you utilize this as digital replacement for a standard flue model?

I've thought about one of those, just don't like the wire cable hanging around. I guess you could hide it somewhat behind the pipe and stove. I also don't like the fact that you have to push the button every 30 minutes to read it, maybe you could rig it to stay on.
