whitfield advantage II T help

Hi to all, Hope you can help. I just got a older whitfied pellet stove. Not sure but think it is the advantage II T. It is serial 51782. And has the one piece door glass. I want to add a thermostate, which is just a plug in. But it has no ignitor, dont even see where it would go. Is it possable to add one to this model??????

Had an old whit for years. Like yours mine did not have an igniter. I never hook to t-sat. I just left it on low most of the time. my old whit is still used by my younger brother. not sure if the connections are there for the igniter. below is a link to the igniter. Others will be able to help out more.

Have been told by a local repair shop, that it can be installed and hooked up. was hoping someone here might have one, and could tell me where on the junction strip it plugs in. there are a lot of unused termanals it could go to. And a picture of its installed location. Thanks.

Contrller has the connection for it. But without ignitor to restart it, wont do much good.

You don't need an ignitor for high/low operation. You manually light it and when the stat is satisfied it turns the stove to low. When the stat calls for heat it turns the stove up high. Basically the stove never goes out, it just keeps cycling between high and low.

If not will see if I can run by the shop that I brought mine an see if I can look at an old one they may have for parts an get some pics. will have to be later in the week at I am out of the area during Mon-Wed. As stated above don't need it for high low.

any whit owners want to take some pics to help a member, or know of whit stove with igniter they can get some pics of???

With the one piece door glass it can only be the Advantage Plus. I've attached the owners manual below this post. The pdf should open, when you click on the hypertext.
Unfortunately there is no wiring diagram in the manual, but the wiring of my Quest Plus is identical to that of the Advantage Plus, so I have attached a photo of the sticker inside my stove. As you can see, the igniter is optional.
Now, maybe your Advantage Plus never had an igniter installed, but if you remove the burn pot, you should see the igniter tube right behind the burn pot. An igniter is installed in this tube from the back of the stove ( Access is limited, but it helps to remove the blower ).

Have read that unless your stove came with a igniter buying a replacement igniter wont work, there are some other part's needed, the pic stove part's shows is just the replacement igniter if you had one installed, I may be wrong but thats what the dealer told me for my Advantage 2 T
And Whitfield's wont shutoff using a t-stat and even If you had a Igniter It will only go to a 1, I've never used either in 17 yr's warmer out, leave on 1 colder out leave on a 2-3

Yes, this information is valid for the Advantage II-T. As we can see on the picture below from an Advantage II-T manual, an external timer block ( and wiring ) is present to operate the igniter. However, the Advantage Plus and my Quest Plus have identical wiring. The Quest Plus has the circuitry to actuate the igniter inside the control board, so I'm assuming that the Advantage Plus is similar equipped. The added "Plus" word could most likely be referring to this improvement
One way to be sure if the control board can actuate the igniter directly, is to open the control board and examine the pcb. I did that on mine a couple of years ago and took pictures of it. On my picture of the pcb below we see two "Zettler" relays: One is for bypassing the low limit switch at start up for 30 minutes ( allowing the stove to warm up ), and the other is for switching the relative high current to the igniter.

According to Mountain view Hearth, the one piece curved glass not only fits the Whitfield Advantage Plus but also the Whitfield Advantage III which is the stove I believe to have found that has no model tag.

Curved replacement glass for all Whitfield Advantage Plus and Advantage III models. This is the glass with glass gasket only. Advantage Plus is a WP7 and was made from 1996-2000. Advantage III is a WP2 and was made from 1991-1996.

This glass also fits the Profile 30 (P10) stoves that were made with one piece of glass. It does not work on the units that came with seperate side glass pieces.

The thermostat is just a connection in the back to drop the stove to LOW (low fan and feed) until the thermostat closed the connection. Then whatever previous setting there was, would the stove return too. There are little speaker connections in the back of the stove. There should be a wire there (closed circuit) and a thermostat needs to OPEN the circuit to tell the controller to go to LOW mode. I have a LUX thermostat. These can't be used to shut off and turn on. The entire stove has to be made to do that. None of the Whitfields did that. Only the pellet stoves made much later had the computer controls for all of that. I buy fire bricks, cut them into small sections and use that to start a fire. But mine is on for weeks before I shut it off for a deep cleaning.

The Profile and Optima series Whitfield’s do shut down and start up again when the T-Stat calls for heat. Since the Control Board in the Advantage Series is the same size and mounts the same way, (slot in the bottom for the tab on the bottom of the Control Panel and one screw in the top tab to secure the control board) and the proven fact that the photo eye connection on the profile control panel can be connected to the Low Limit snap disc on the exhaust blower housing, then if the Advantage has an Igniter Installed and wired with a wire harness made for a profile series stove, then a Profile 30 Control Panel (the profile 30 has the same 38k BTUs and the Advantage so the feed rates are the same) then with this simple change of control panel and wire harness you can make the Advantage turn on and off with a millivolt T-Stat and a swing setting of 2 Degrees. I have never tried this but would you agree it would work?
