Hi, new to the pellet stove world. Iwas given a Whitfield t300p stove. it works great. blower fan made noise so i replaced it. exhaust fan died and I just replaced it a few weeks ago.

The last owner complained about the stove not burning clean and making the window black in 24hr or less. I have found the same with 2 different brands of premium red fir pellets. Purcell and Rocky Canyon.

I have played with the exhaust damper and if I close it much, it will back up the pot with pellets overnight. if it's wide open it runs great but the window is covered with soot in 24hr. I also run into a problem of the eye getting blocked by soot, not alowing the stove to see that a fire has lit because of the way it burns.

is there anything I can try tonfix this problem? or is it a common pellet stove trait? my exhaust is routed straight out the wall with only 1, 45* bend. I have completely cleaned out this stove with compressed air and a vacuum. I'm out of options but hope someone has some suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Check your gaskets... Good tight clean stoves should not dirty the glass that much or that fast. Now on warmer days with my stove turning on and off it will start to dirty somewhat but its normal. A hot constant fire and you should be able to see into the fire for weeks without issues.

Try the dollar bill test on the gaskets of doors. Close and latch door on a dollar bill and try and remove the bill. Repeat all the way around the doors. If the bill pull out easily the gaskets will need to be replaced. Most stoves its not a big expense or hard to do.

Yeah my door gasket on my p43 has given me hell twice now lol. Replacing it again this spring. Just a tiny spot where it rips and leaks slowly.
