Been wanting to try them myself but also know that my stove will do just fine with the mwp blend at the lowest of temperatures so I'll hold onto the softies for next year.hmmm. calling for -16 to -19 tonight.
close enough. going to give a bag of the MWP softies a go.
been itchin' to try them.
My point exactly. It is amazing how many Harman owners spend extra money on high end pellets without understanding how their stove truly works.no such thing as shoulder pellets when you own a Harman....................
Wazilizn...You are right there in the heart of Barefoot, Turman and Hamer country. If anyone in the State College, PA area know of other brands around, I'd love to listen to ya
About all I can get in my area (from what I've found) are Stove Chow, Energex, and a few shoddier brands than those. Although I don't consider Stove Chow and Energex (They are the same thing I understand) that cheap, they are both very ashy and give off a good amount of heat. Would love to get some of the pellets you boys up in New England get.

WHAT?!? I'd love to get my hands on a few bags of each of those. Any idea on what stores/shops have those around me? The box stores and the 2 or 3 dealers I know of around here don't have those. Days like this I hope I'm dead wrongWazilizn...You are right there in the heart of Barefoot, Turman and Hamer country.

I think they are saying the stove automatically sets the feed and air to get to temperature regardless of pellet, whereas I need to walk over to my Quad and change a switch to High and maybe adjust a feed rate trim.So are you guys saying that a colder pellet throws out the same heat as a hotter pellet in a Harman?
I get how the stove works but I am not making the connection. I was thinking when it comes to sg/ft, some may need the extra BTU?
i know exactly how the harman works, but your gonna burn more pellets with a "shoulder" season pellet than you are with a "name brand" such as turmans or barefoots on the same stove setting, and your stove wont be caked with ash like some "shoulders" only seem to be good for doing....to each his own theory i guessMy point exactly. You'll still need to burn more pellets and get more ash to get the same heat from lower-quality pellets, regardless of stove. And yes, when you reach the max safe feed rate of the stove, you'll see a difference if one pellet has a higher net BTU/lb than another.
Take a closer look at the btus/$ comparison. I clean my stove at least every other whether it needs it our not so the ash doesn't bother me. I'd rather save my money. After all isn't that what most of us are burning pellets for anyway?i know exactly how the harman works, but your gonna burn more pellets with a "shoulder" season pellet than you are with a "name brand" such as turmans or barefoots on the same stove setting, and your stove wont be caked with ash like some "shoulders" only seem to be good for doing....to each his own theory i guess

Not everyone has two stoves just saying. You are correct. But how do you measure that? And if I ever need to hit the max feed rate, it's time to move south.
Me too. Looks like 20's here from Sunday night until Thurs, in the teens each night. Then looks like back to 30's.Looks like we'll be heading back to the cold stuff Sunday night. I'll be switching back to my cubies and the 4 bags of turmans that were hiden in my stash. That was like finding treasure!
Cold snap looks like it will last a solid week of mid 20's for daytime highs. Saw a few low single digit night time temps in the forcast. Brrrrrr!
