This is true Waulie. Good point. I put about 8 cord under my covered porch, boy is it nice to just shovel the entrance out and have all the wood be dry in there.

The woodshed came with the house. I can cram about 2.5 cord in there, but it's not enough. That row in the pic is what I have left in the shed. Thought I'd start moving some from the stacks today. Of course, we had 2+ days of 30 mph winds and fluffy snow this week. Now my stacks are literally half buried in drifts! Stack it in windy location, they say.

Just kidding. I stack there because it's flat, open, and it's right behind the shed.

Did you count the snow on top too?
Took a walk out back today, and there's maybe a foot on top, but I can see the bottom of the stacks.

I keep seeing these threads about wood sheds, I might just have to build one myself someday. I do ok with what I have but a wood shed would look nicer and hold more and the best part, no more tarps

We're thinking about putting a small deck with a shed roof out from the entry door. Dual purpose for sure. All I need is a spot near the door, like I have now with the small elevated slab, where I can keep a couple of weeks' worth dry. Any snow we get is usually gone in that amount of time, and I can re-stock from the stacks.

We had a decent size deck, but tore it up. It was on the south side of the house, and not usable during the summer. Too hot. It was too high to put a roof over, and with the slab at ground level I will get a good pitch with the roof. It will be 20x40ish, and I'll be able to drive my atv and trailer right on it. The sliding glass door is right next to the stove.

No more tarps can't be stressed enough.
Was prime motivator for me.
+ being able to stack higher, have dry "findable" wood 24/7/365.

+1 on the tarps, and +1 on the other part too.
NONE, and let me stress that, NONE of the wood I use now has snow or ice on it.
Unless I drop it on the way into the house. Or, more likely, one of the labs does.
