Willa pellet stove work.

We have recently finished our basement and two of our young boys moved their bedroom into the basement, our heat is run down there but there is no separate thermostat so it's always quite a bit colder down there. We'd like to install a pellet stove to help keep the boys warm through the cold Wisconsin winters. My question is, will this work? Also we are some what limited on stove placement in order to keep the boys' room as warm as possible. How far away from the room can it be and still heat? Also what are the venting regulations? I really know nothing about pellet stoves, so any advice would be very appreciated. thanks!

If you are only doing it for comfort and not fuel savings, then it would likely be better to have the heat zoned off and put on it's own thermostat. It would likely be cheaper to zone it off.

Venting can be dealt with easy enough. How many square feet is your basement for starters? How is it laid out? It will definitely work to heat with a pellet stove. You can get one that will do the entire home if you wanted that to save on central heating costs. We need some more details so we can offer suggestions and possible solutions.

I don't think any pellet stoves are allowed in a bedroom. Also you should check your local codes.

I don't want to put the stove in the bedroom itself. There are a few places I could put it. There's an unfinished workshop that would be an option as well as an office. When coming down the stairs to the basement there is a 90* turn then you enter a large hallway and the bedroom is off the hallway. I've attached an extremely rough picture. The total square feet of the basement is approx. 1,000.

Being a space heater, putting it nearest the space you will be mostly hanging out in (except in a bedroom, where fire codes preclude it) is recommended. The central family room in your drawing would probably be ideal. Will also be contingent on your venting options, ie is that wall above ground / partially above ground? You can then use floor fans to move cold air from the distant rooms back towards the warm stove room.

Are your basement walls finished in your family room section? Concrete or cinder blocks will suck huge BTU's to the point that you made need to finish / insulate them if they are unfinished to keep the heat where you need and want it. Search 'basement installs' in the search box in the upper right corner for lots of prior posts on those.
