Question:

How low to the centerline of an 8" duct from a direct vent gas stove (Whitfield Ovation) may the rough framing (double 2x4 plate) be place to allow the installation of a fixed vinyl window directly above the gas stove vent? Can a window be located closer if the vent pipe extends further from the building? How can one get the largest view over a direct vent gas stove?

Answer:

In most cases, the clearances given in the manual are from the openable portion of the window. Depending on the stove model, the clearances to a fixed window may be little or nothing. There is a good chance that extending the piping further from the building might also reduce this. You have to talk to Whitfield or your local dealer about the specs for your particular model.
