How thick is the ice?

I haven’t drilled through yet. Last week I heard 9” on the south end where I am and over a foot on the north end.

A friend in Dolgeville sent me a shot of their outside thermometer this morning reading -10ºF. That should make for some chilly sailing but solid ice.

Thinking about ice sailing, how do they stop sideways sliding along the ice when on a reach? They don’t have the keel/daggerboard/centerboard that sailboats have. I guess the skates dig in enough?

Yes, that's how skaters make such sharp curves.
