Wood bin for inside the house....

Hey folks needs some help on finding a firewood storage bin/container to put next to my fireplace. I have visions of a metal (copper, tin, galvanized etc...) type of material that has a lid on it as well (to keep possible spiders and such in the container). I am thinking of keeping maybe 7-10 pieces of wood in there, reducing the trips outside in the middle of the night. Rough dimensions might be around 2.5' wide, and maybe 2' tall. My wood is 18" cuts.

I don't want to break the bank on this. Any stores, websites ideas would be appreciated.

We had an outdoor plastic storage bin for chair cushions that was too small for our new cushions so I'm using that. For 7-8 pieces, there are plastic totes that are real cheap that would be perfect or even a recycle bin.

I have an unfinished pine toy chest near my stove that keeps wood at the ready. If the worst happens and I get too lazy to go outside, I can always burn the chest.

I bought a nice rack in Lowe's that comes with a sling. The rack will comfortably hold about 2 sling loads. You don't want to keep a large amount of wood in the house. Various insects may start to hatch.

We use an antique pine crate. 18"x36" and works great. Looks old school too.

I made this rack with black pipe and fittings from the home depot. A friend glued together the 18"x18" hardwood base. Two fixed and two swiveling casters allow me to roll this to the front door. I think it cost me $160 in materials, but could probably be done cheaper. I do wish that I spent more on the casters though.

I use an old cast iron cooking kettle similar to the attached pic. It'll hold just over a days worth of wood.

I use 55 gallon plastic drums with the lids cut out and bring them in with a 2 wheel hand dolley.

Stoneduster how old is that VC Resolute? I had a 1988 model and yours looks like it. What a great stove!

Simonkenton, I don't know how old the stove is, I think it is the second generation Resolute, 1979 (I believe) is cast in the fireback. I love this stove, it is such a clean burning little work horse. If I get it right, I can go from cold start to steady state burn with virtually no smoke, in spite of a slightly cracked and slightly warped fireback.

I like recycling old things, plus it holds all the debris from the wood I just shovel it out every week or so.
