Oklahoma
Good evening,

I recently bought a house in Oklahoma. I had the chimney cleaned after removing the fireplace insert. I plan to use the fireplace insert for heat. I already purchased a 6inch ×15 ft stainless steel liner, along with 2inch insulation. My question is, the top of my insert has a damper I believe, and I am not certain if I can cut into the liner to account for the notch of the damper and then use silicone sealant to seal around the junction to prevent smoke from coming into the house?

I took a picture of what I believe is the damper opening.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

The liner does not get attached directly to the insert. An appliance adapter with a band clamp is used.

What stove make and model is this?

You need something like this. They can be found with different angles too to help it all line up. Rockford Chimney Supply Stainless Steel Chimney Appliance Adapter Connector RockFlex, Round 6 Inch https://a.co/d/bcKmohp

This is the kit I bought. It actually has that part in it (I didn't see it because it was inside the cap). Can I cut a notch into it to fit with having that damper bar as the top of the insert? What can I use to create a seam so the smoke won't come out?

Yes you can notch it for the damper. If it fits the stove collar tight there is no need for further sealing

Flat stove gasket is best for any gaps.

Would this be adequate? Do you have a specific one in mind?

Thank you for all your help!
No need for the adhesive but the yes that’s the flat gasket. If you have a decent fit you won’t need it but where you are notching I can’t say how that will fit.

Try and make it fit without any gasket but it better to fill gaps with gasket rather than stove cement.
