Wood ID please....

I have about 45-50 of good size pieces of this. Been seasoned for 3yrs now and they are still heavy. Moisture reading about 10-13%. Plan on using them for all-nighters. My guess is Black Locust but just curious.....It smelled like ketchup when I split it...

Yep. Even though it's not the longest burning, I've got a thing for Black Cherry, like I do for Red Elm and River Birch. I like the color of Cherry wood, the bark, and the fragrance (both splitting and burning.) It coals pretty well, too. I just can't pass up a Cherry score. I saw a little bit next to the road about a mile from the house. I asked the home owner if I could have it, he said "go ahead, the county cut it up and left it." I went to pick it up, then saw the rest of the tree. I got the OK from that landowner, who I got a little White Oak from last year. The Cherry broke about 5' up, it's still attached, and the trunk is on a steep rip-rap bank. I think I'll be able to cut it into rounds from the top down, staying uphill of the trunk in case it breaks off the stump.
