Got this free off Craigslist yesterday, someone beat me to all the small stuff, and left the big rounds. I almost wish I had brought my splitter over because they were really hard to load in the trailer. The pile next to my splitter came from just one round. Anyway, I'm not very good at identifying wood so curious as to what I got. Thanks!

Looks like you got some sweet gum wood. I see stringy splits, light colored wood, and a star shaped leaf in the 4th pic. Was it hard to split? I had some a while back and didn't bother with it, gave it away to another wood burner. A fair burning wood is what I read about it, 20.6-21-9 BTU's per cord, about the same as pine. That leaf looks like gum (as Mr. A said),

but the wood looks like soft maple.

It was not to easy to split but my splitter still did fine with it.

How's Silver Maples heat output? Does it season fast? I'm just starting on building my wood pile this spring/summer so I need some wood for this winter that seasons fast.

Yes it seasons fast. Should be good this winter if in the wind and sun. Heat output is decent

Where did the leaf come from? That is a gum leaf. Looks like you have a silver maple in the second pic, the live silver maple tree growing above the SUV, and another pic of it to the left of truck in 4th pic.

Guys I'm sorry, I should have been more specific. The live trees and the leaf on the driveway all came from living trees in my yard. I took these pictures in my driveway after I brought the wood home. I was only curious to know about the rounds of wood in my trailer.

Yes, I was not so successfully suggesting to compare it with your silver maple growing behind your truck.

I really like silver maple for daytime burns or during shoulder season. Stuff I split last year this time was burned in November and did great. It burns hot and clean but does not leave long lasting coals I've found.
