worried about overdraft

Chimney is 35+ feet lined with 6" round (old drafty two story house with 9' ceilings and walk up attic) I am concerned that I might get a runaway if there is excessive draft. Anyway to easily measure draft (no stove yet oil burner currently using the chimney will be removed prior to stove install) If you add a damper how do you know where to set it?

The two stoves I am looking at are the enerzone solution 3.4, Drolet Ht2000. Any insight on these would also be appreciated.

I would investigate and potentially worry about using the existing oil fired chimney for a wood stove, it may not be up to your local building and insurance code.

What will be the heat source once the oil furnace is removed? Most home owner insurance policies require a central heat source.

i was wondering the same thing. i think you have to have a central heat source....it can be a furnace or baseboard heat but i don't think a wood stove qualifies. if you plan on taking it out, why not replace it with a wood furnace and tie it into the heat system. they have hybreds that use oil and wood but i don't think they perform as well as one or the other. you can't share a chimney either......well, not in most places.

Going to your original question, I am currently running on 34' of 6" insulated ss pipe along with an OAK. The draft is considerable, but manageable. You need to watch things, that's all.

Sorry should have given a few more details. house now has two seperate hot air gas systems. (One for each floor) Oil was a boiler currently only doing hot water till oil runs out then that will be gas too. The chimney already has a liner that is ok for wood, sweep is going to insulate it.

Would an OAK help in this situation?

an OAK will give your stove a direct link to the outside for pulling in combustion air. It will not improve your draft control (unless you have too little). That is done with the primary air adjustment and in rare instances using a pipe damper.
