Would you burn this?

Got this oak from a neighbor a couple of years ago. I think the tree must have been dead for a while when he cut it down. Wood looks a little punky and moisture meter shows about 19% though it’s still pretty solid. Wood looked the same when i was splitting it and has been stacked but not covered for 2 years. I’ve got plenty of primo wood that I thought of mixing it with it wasn’t sure if punky was safe to burn

Split again, measure moisture. If it is good, burn it.

I'd burn it on days I was home tending the fire. I also have an old non-epa stove. Throw a split in and see how it does.

Punky wood is safe to burn but it will burn faster than solid oak would.

I burned punky oak all weekend that looked far worse than what you have pictured and it is not the first time...some of it was ready to fall apart...it was dry and had BTUs....so I burned it with no problems....

Yes.....why would you not burn it? If it is dry.....burn it.

if not covered have to be real sure of moisture, punky is like pine or stuff like that like a sponge in any rain or snow.
stuff should be coved normally the top only is best

Burn it, but throw it on a hot bed of coals, the punky will be wet like a sponge, but not the inside. Either that or cover it, and burn it next year.

Punky wood sucks up water like a sponge, and when it's wet it is very tough to burn.

Dry, it burns fast and hot. I wouldn't say no. The wood pictured looks like good firewood to me.

Burn it. Burning seasoned and dry punky oak is great. It doesn't burn quite as long but its like having a firestarter integrated into each split.

As long as it’s dry, burn baby burn! Punk or no punk. Stuff in picture looks great. Even dry punky oak is as good as or better than some solid softwoods like pine or white fir. I burn all the mentioned and heat my house with ‘em all.
Dry wood=heat.

I always put these guys on a very hot fire. That's when I burn any suspect wood.
