Serena Williams!

What a competitor! Singles tennis has got to be one of the hardest sports going...no "team" to back you up and playing against the world's best. The scores are close, so even the slightest slip-up can do you in.

This takes a mental and physical discipline that few can hope to ever achieve. I remember watching Boris Becker win a 5 hour set in hot weather. At the time, I was 1/2 dead after one hour on the court with basic singles.

While all the popular sports take conditioning and mental wiles, few leave you as alone to win or lose as tennis. It's a combination of all the best of the others....IMHO, anyway.

Kinda like being self employed and the sole employee. Except most don't make $100 million a year. I fail one quarter I loose my house and business.

Saw the subject and thought you were talking about me...

Yeah. Wouldn't want to take Serena on in a tennis match. Or a bar fight either.

I think there are many times a tennis player gets beat and think "That wimp shouldn't have been able to beat me!" - that probably rarely happens with Williams. I think folks, rightfully so, are scared stiff when they see those muscles. If this were boxing, she'd be wearing the heavyweight crown.

its funny, i'm not trying to stir the pot here or anything, but I have met a few tennis players or tennis fans that have this belief that tennis is the toughest and hardest, most mentally challenging and technical sport there is....

i personally think all athletes, no matter what sport, who are at he top of their game have to put in as much as the rest to be there.....golf, tennis, swimming, football, cycling etc....for example, where some sports might not require as much physical endurance, there might be an element of risk and injury that is tough to get over mentally.....

PS...i have a major bias to a particular sport, but im not tellign what it is...haha
