At least she didnt use gasoline to fire it up.

People are in a big rush all the time and that's why they screw stuff up.
Not stove related but I'm a self employed Computer repair tech.
I got a call from a guy once who wanted to book an appt
for me to come set up a new computer because he couldn't get it to boot up, he said.
Well he said he pushed the on button but it wasn't working. I gave him a
time/day, he called back in a few hours and told me
he was all set and that he felt stupid because he found the
computer wasn't plugged in the wall and that's why it didn't turn on. lol.
Been doing this work for about twenty years and actually have
had a few calls like that over the years. Being a service call person
of any kind you'll encounter funny stuff like that.

.....he called back in a few hours and told me
he was all set and that he felt stupid because he found the
computer wasn't plugged in the wall and that's why it didn't turn on........

How about the woman some years back who had her CD drive on her computer replaced 3 times under warranty. She couldn't figure out why it kept breaking. The last tech that serviced it asked her what happened when she inserted the CD and hit the close button......her reply:

"CD? I thought that was a cup holder".

You can't make this stuff up.

As I see it, all of the other creatures on this planet have natural predators that eat the ones that aren't smart enough to avoid them. That keeps the number of dumb ones at a minimum. The human race doesn't have any natural predators except other humans, so we have to wait for them to either kill each other or themselves and they just aren't doing it fast enogh.

Thought there was to many people getting in the way of them killing themselves off. Medical community, the traveling blueberrys etc. The Chinese are giving themselves a unhealthy dose of inhaled carcinogens. I wonder how that will play out.

yea, the Chinese are burning OUR coal, which we aren't allowed to burn HERE because it will ruin the earth's environment..... What's wrong with this picture???

sure, imagine you live in a northern tier state where weather can get dangerously cold in winter. now a pellet stove requires electricity, a fireplace does not, so by installing an insert you effectively remove the fireplace from its designed use. now losing power if you have a woodstove (or fireplace) you have a source of heat that doesnt need power. so a freestanding install where the fireplace does not contain the stove you could still use it in a long term power outage for emergency heat while using a freestanding pellet stove which would be in a different location for heat during power on time.

so if your "primary" heat source needs electricity to operate and you have a fireplace which does not, its prudent to not intall an insert into a fireplace in this case as you remove an emergency heat source from being used.

now if your "primary heat functions without electricity then you arent limited by this and an insert allows you to use the fireplace for a more efficient source during "normal" times when power isnt an issue

I have a HeatnGlo 550 for emergency heat. It just needs 2 "C" cells for the starter. The crackling wood logs on the TV are just for effect. LOL

Although the room blower fan works on AC :-( In worst case I can bring out "Stinky" my kerosene heater! LOL

This one is a sure winner for the Darwin Award! OMG!

Sounds like he put a PID controller on the stove, probably stole of his smoker.

My good friend sells appliances at lowes. customer called it and said she wanted her newly delivered refrigerator picked up. He asked why. She replied it is a piece of junk. So he said well can you explain to me whats going on. She said I have had it plugged in all day, and It will not make ice lol! This is no joke, so then he went on to explain to her that you have to have a water line to make ice, she said oh I thought you just plug it in, and it was ready to go! All these years I have been told electricity and water do not mix, Now I know I was lied to. Water and electricity comes out of the same outlet;)

The two most common things in the universe: hydrogen and stupidity. The human race has, unfortunately, pretty much eliminated most Darwinism.

a question i hear at LEAST 10 times a year "you mean i gotta clean it?"

usually after its been run non-stop for a month and finally is so plugged up it starts dropping safeties and shutting down. customer says "its broken".

had a lady from long island read me the riot act on the phone (demanded to talk to a manager as a simple technician wasn't good enough, going straight for blood) needless to say i got to have the pleasure, anyway, she goes off on me from the word go how she spent almost 2 grand on this stove and it only worked for one day, professional installation and all that and she was going to sue us if we didn't have a technician at her house TODAY! !!! my reaction was "whats it doing wrong?, she says , "it will not light up, no pellets are coming out" i said ok, well lets see if we can figure out why, she wasn't having that," im calling my lawyer" im like, no need for that , can you just take a peek at a few things, im not asking you to turn any wrenches or anything, she relents and says
ok, what do you want me to look at?" i said, open the hopper, she did and again blew a gasket "this thing used up all my pellets in ONE DAY! oh this is unacceptable, a whole bag in just one day! (im in tears by now)
seems this lady bought a stove , venting system and a bag of pellets had it delivered , had a professional from some chimney service come in and install it, loaded the stove and switched it on, she assumed the bag of fuel she bought was going to last her about a month as it was 40 pounds of pellets , a great big heavy bag like that has to last for weeks right?

she ended up returning the stove after i explained it would use a bag a day, store contacted me after she brought it back warning me ahead of time she intended to sue us for the damage caused by the installation of the stove (hole in the wall) never did hear from her on that, i suspect her lawyer probably owns a pellet stove;)

That is priceless, I can not stop laughing. I would love to seen her face when she looked in the hopper and there were no pellets!

So, the smarter we think we have become the more dependant we are on others to tell us what and how to do simple things.

had a guy one tme who asked me (about our corn stoves) "do ya have to take the cobb off?" guy thought the auger was there to strip the corn off the cobb and then feed it.

im sitting there thinking "naw man, just dump dirt in the hopper and plant seeds, the stove will do the rest" had to pee after that call too;)

One of the funniest things I've ever read...

I hate to be an ass, but man, these people frigging deserve everything they get. If you don't know how to do something, and refuse to look it up at home depot, the library, or the internet, you deserve all reprocussions from your actions.

Those "stupid things people do" keeps my hubby in his job (fire fighter):) . Came home one night shaking his head about a pellet stove install, used dryer vent for the exhaust. Saved the house but lost the wall where the stove was "installed", not sure how much smoke damage, no one injured. Even the worst manuals provide clear details for install ... don't get it:(

COB? what the heck? We don't sell those corn stoves here because it takes too dang long to open the stupid cans!

ya know, it occurs to me that these folks aren't necessarily stupid, rather, they are ignorant. Ive met some HIGHLY intelligent folks (as per IQ, and their lot in life), but when it comes to practical things, well, they don't have much common sense.....ignorant. Imagine what these folks, mentioned above, actually DO for a living? that's right, doctors, lawyers, cops, firemen, and scariest of all- teachers! God help our kids!

Thanks guys for some great chuckles. Mike, you're stories are great but I have to say the one with the wood stove venting on the ceiling takes my cake. Wow.

As always, another person who really did not take the time to learn about what she was getting into, but what really makes her stupid in my mind is she was also really nasty too. Noramlly I wouold have laughed it all off, but with this one I would have given it back to her full bore in the end. Let her get her lawyer all she wants.

well, lemme tell ya, in today's retail environment, almost ALL of the onus is put upon the retailer to ensure that the homeowner does everything right, and is satisfied. Basically, the way consumer protection laws are set up these days, in many areas, if the consumer is unsatisfied (for whatever reason- even with their ignorance or stupidity), they are due a full refund......and its certainly not unheard of for folks to threaten you with legal action....more typical than you think. Those of you who are in the retail biz know this is the case, but it might be a surprise to folks who aren't.....I've been doing this retail thing for a LONG time (over a quarter of a century), and one thing I've noticed is that folks are just getting more and more difficult as time passes.....this lady might SEEM extreme, but, I absolutely believe the story, as I've seen it myself, firsthand.
