I am a proud and satisfied Woodstock progress hybrid owner but when it came time to get my mother a stove in her house I ordered her a Blaze king ashford 30. Here are some some my reasons
1st I'm on the Canadian side and that exchange is rough. 2nd duties at the border another 500$ Canadian ( 350 U.S) 3rd I just really wanted to be able to compare them side by side as my mother lives 40 ft away and it's gonna be me loading and starting her stove 90% time. I can't wait and I'll post my finding on here.

I'm a Woodstock guy myself, but it certainly will be interesting to compare them. I wouldn't consider myself a traitor, since you are running the Progress. I haven't even seen a BK in person yet, since it's a considerable drive to get to a dealer. From what I've seen in the Keystone and Fireview, I'm impressed with the quality and well-thought-out engineering. And I want a good grated ash system if I can get it. How come you didn't consider a Woodstock Absolute or Ideal? Did she have to have a prettier stove? What about the bottom-line price to Canadia, Woodstock Steels vs. BK? Nice that you can take care of Mom. I used to load the Buck twice a day at my MIL's. Sometimes I'd show up and she would be snoozing in the recliner, close to the blessed heat. :)

That's a hard one to argue with... kinda like mixing up a case of beer or wine instead of just going with all the same of what you know.

You do know, to do justice to your comparison, at some point you are going to have to put your stove in her house and her stove in yours.

They're both top notch stove brands. Really the only two cat stove brands. Hard to go wrong.

Really the only two cat stove brands
That's pretty much it...except Buck, Regency, High Valley, Appalachian, High Sierra, Lopi, VC, and Kuma. ==c But yeah, some of those I would pass on. For me, all of them except Woodstock since they're the only ones that rear-vent.

All of those other brands offer such inferior cat stoves that I just can't consider them as options. I wouldn't want my mom to buy one. Just get a nice non-cat instead.

This seems like a start to good thread, for starts are you burning wood from the same pile?

Yeah, I think you are!

Lol, somebody had to say it! :p

Matt and tuning non cat since I got rid of a CDW Rocky Mountain! I've got no dog in this one.

Please fix that title, begreen.

Can't wait to hear your opinion on the side-by-side comparisons. I predict all sorts of love for the Ashford, by year's end.

Wow. Lots a questions to answer.
1st cost comparison. They where about the same until the duties at the boarder. But it was the convenience of the local deal and install. And I really wanted to compare them since when I was choosing 3 yrs ago they where neck and neck and you always wonder about the one that got away, Haha. And yes she did want a prettier stove.

2nd. Woodpile. In fact the woodpile had alot to do with it. By brother recently cleared alot and we found ourselves with a massive amount of hard maple. So much in fact that it was deciding factor in the birthday present to my mother. We had so much wood that the 2 of us wouldn't burn through it before it was of no more use. We needed a 3 stove.
3rd how do the 2 house compare? The are pretty similar, 2,400 sq feet. However I couldn't convince her to put her stove in the basement so she is only going to really be heating about 1,300 to my 2,400.
4th. Yes I belive this looks like the start to good thread.

In a head-to-head showdown, your wimpy stove would end up as molten puddle on the floor. >>
EPA Heat Output, BTU/hr: BK Princess 1006, 12000-35600. Buck 91 Bay, 8800-51200. Yeah, I know, EPA numbers...but the fact remains. ==c

All sorts of love? ;)
I predict a withering beat-down shall be administered, regardless of the PH heating almost twice the area from the basement.
BK Ashford, 11200-27300. Woodstock Progress Hybrid, 12500-73200. Heh heh.

Na, relax. Both stoves are good, I have the PH but I'm sure I'd be just as happy with a BK.

All this talk made start my stove, for nothing really. It's 60 Degrees up here, it must be 90 in the house now. Man this PH sure throws heat. Hahaha

I'm going to weigh in here and say Ford . . . definitely Ford and not Chevy. ;) :)

I believe it will be a good show. Are you going to attempt some long shoulder burns?

I have been looking to purchase one of these two stoves so am very interested in getting your 1st hand heating feedback!

I was not expecting another "Woodstock vs BK" thread out of that title
When a guy posts that he's got both a BK and a Woodstock, what did you expect? ;) No malice meant by me. As far as I'm concerned, it's all in good fun, with tongue firmly planted in cheek. :) Both stoves do what they do, pretty well. I feel as though I've gotta carry the banner for the Woodstock tribe since we are woefully out-numbered here at 'BK central.' ;hm
