Has anyone talked with PE about fixing the crap they pass off as a baffle gasket?
I am hopeful that either they or an aftermarket company will make a good one.

On a side note here...how critical is the stove being level? Mine is about 1/16th bubble down
on one side and I wonder if I need to adjust it.

Lots of old discussion about the gasket. Search for hogwildz homemade gasket.

As to the level thing, I always level a steel stove. That is how is was made in the jig and it stops most of the bonging noise as the stove heats up. Probably from relieving stress.

What do you guys think of 1/8" fiberglass fabric. Mcmaster sells it in 3" or 4" or 6" wide by 10 ft long for about $12.60. Thinking of buying some and cutting out the center hole. Mcmaster part# is 8817k892, max temp is 1000deg. Could always stack 2 high if not thick enough. Could make like 40 gaskets out of one piece.

Yea or Nay?

Scroll down to the picture of the gasket. I made one of these for each of my Super 27s. I used thin wire from a bread bag twist tie to hold the ends together.

Thanks...I looked at these posts and will prob try to fix one my self, but hoped they would have come up with a better solution from PE by now. If a company puts out something that is supposed to be a high end product they shouldnt put crap like this in it.

The factory gasket is cheap and does what it is supposed to do. It's an expendable part. I just keep a few on hand which covers me for 3 years if the chimney gets cleaned once a year.
