Best to check local Canadian pricing.

Has your friend seen these?

They are fairly contemporary looking and I am pretty sure the WS22 can be had around $2100-2300 US. The smaller unit, the WS18 probably $1900-$2000 US. I was looking for a contemporary-looking insert on a budget and found these. I have the insert version of the WS18. Very happy with it.

Analogkid: I have never seen those before. I will send him the link! He really likes the look of the CHinook 30 but I told him to hold on to his hat for the pricing....

That is exactly what he would like. Except I think he should get something bigger for his needs.....wow, that is a nice stove! 3 sided, rare in the wood business!

That Jotul only takes 12 inch logs, produces enough heat for 1000 square feet...he'd need two, at least.

Agreed not very powerful. Meant for those small European homes.

Not my style, but I can appreciate a well designed stove.

Agreed. Change of topic: what is the cost of a BK Chinook 30 these days? $3K? My buddy likes it a lot....

That would be the way to go...!

I got a quote on a 30 earlier today. Floor model, $2700+ taxes with the dual blower included. Pretty decent!

Nice find and great price! Over budget, but hopefully your friend will reconsider.

I agree guys. His taste is simple to explain: the type of style from Ikea. Europeean look. So a square box with 4 legs sitting in his room is not something that appeals to him. He said that as far as he is concerned, gold trimmed anything should have been left in the 80s (door knobs, stove doors, etc). lol

I tend to share your friends sensibilities. I like Ikea design wise, but not their craftmanship/materials. Your friend wants something simple, not busy, no decorations, clean lines, preferably horizontal and surface mount. I feel his pain. But the chinook looks great. I would definitely consider it if I were looking for a freestanding stove, 2.75 cu ft box -- that'll work!

Trust me, I will convince him!! He just sold a house before coming here and a bidding war broke out between couples who wanted his house. He got more than his asking price. He can afford the extra $1000!

I already called him with the price (while driving back from the hardware store) and he seems convinced. Once he gets here he said he will go buy a stove, chimney, stove pipe, etc etc. He wanted something he could get long burn times, controlled heat and is pretty. Something tells me I know who will be helping him install it *cough*.

And now I have found a cord of hardwood that is at roughly 22% and a cord of softwood that is properly seasoned as well. He will be all set once he gets here!

I hope it works! I want to see the room first just to make sure it isn't too big for the room. He said maybe he would get the Chinook 20 instead but I am trying to explain that small fires in big stoves are possible but big fires in small stoves are not.
