Its in a basement
Well, if you're heating the whole house from the basement you probably don't want the stove running too much slower. If you want longer burns, you'll just have to tell the Mrs. that you're forced to buy a new, bigger stove. ==c

we have today 31F* outside. now is 5.13Pm and that is my #5 load and maybe 2-3 more.
i have 72F-75F inside.
my Montlake™ 230 fireplace insert have small fire box and i can fit only 6 pieces of wood inside...
and 0 insulation in my walls...

I'm not sure she'd go for that quite yet.

Well, if my times are somewhat expected, then I'm just fine with it. First winter with the stove and second winter in the house. Trying to make sure I'm using it efficently and smartly. Replacing the propane stove with the woodstove was phase one. Getting a more efficient home is phase two. Thanks for the help.

I load 2 - 3 times a day if its really cold and not sunny. If its sunny it can be as cold as it wants and I only load once or twice.

Same house same wood same chimney I used to use a 2.3 c.f. hearthstone that would barely burn overnight and would be effectively cold in the morning. Now with a 2.85 c.f. cat stove we are warmer and enjoy 12-24 hour burns. Cat stoves are awesome.

Reload every 12 hours when burning 24/7. I find this schedule of 2 loads per day works best with my schedule.

There are a lot of variables.. how big is your firebox? How full do you fill it? Chimney design? Wood species? How dry? Outside temps? heck, inside temps? I could run through a full load of hickory in 4 hours.. but it would be +100F in the house today.

No two stoves run the same.

My first year here, there was another Homestead owner who I compared notes with a lot.. he hated his. Wouldn't heat a 1600 sqft house for him. Our installs were pretty comparable. He gave up, and went back to a non-epa stove. My 2100 sqft was warm. I was happy.

We have a regency f2400,20ft ish of chimney, 1600 sq ft raised ranch, when I fill it I fill it, it's currently -10 degrees celcius outside and 2 loads a day isn't cutting it. Wood is ash or oak.
