TV Above Free Standing Pellet Stove...

I'm looking at getting the Quadrafire Mt. Vernan, but where I'd need to put it my TV would go above it. I'm not conerned of the heat or anything like that, I've just never seen it and I'm concerned how it would look.

I know they make an insert, but apparently they are hard to come by. My plans just changed as I had a wood fireplace to be installed next Friday, but the chimney won't work so I need to find alternatives...

I have my plasma TV over my fireplace insert.

Place a thermometer where you plan on placing the TV. As long as the temperature is under 80-85 degrees, you're fine.

Pellet stoves blow hot air out and away from the stove, not up like a fireplace or wood stove does.

Hell if you like then who cares what others think.

Hmnnn.....how it looks is entirely up to you. I've seen a number of mega-size plasma tv's hung over fireplaces in local Mcmansions, and it's a very attrative look. However, you may have a technical issue here. Pellet stoves produce dust no matter how clean your pellets are or how clean you keep your stove. A number of televisions have internal cooling fans which may get fouled by dust, on top of which, televisions are static magnets. There are evidently anti-static wipes for tv's that work very well, and my cooling fan concern may turn out to be a false alarm. Given the price of those things, it would be prudent to give the manufacturer a call and rut it by them.

My concern would be that the light from the fire would make it hard to see the TV. In home theater installations you wan the room dark, certainly not with bright light of a pellet stove right in front of you.

+1 to that.

It would be a shame to have to look past that bright flame to see your HDTV hanging on the wall.

I'd be more concerned with my concentration being distracted to watching the pellet flame and then missing key parts of a show or sporting event. Make sure you have a DVR hooked up to TV to prevent this. Love those DVR's, can rewind anything!

Another vote to go ahead and do it if you like the look. We have our LCD mounted above a Mt Vernon insert. It's only been a couple of months, but no performance issues regarding the television. Stove is quiet enough so noise is not an issue. Mounted high enough so that light from the stove is not a factor. It's actually nice, last couple of nights we just put the kids to bed early and enjoyed Holiday INN and White Christmas by only the light of the stove and the Christmas tree. It’s the most wonderful time of the year
