25% rebate (if you live in Newfoundland) http://www.releases.gov.nl.ca/releases/2008/nr/1105n03.htm

I'm sure most of us in the states would like to have a program like this.

The US is not serious about energy alternatives.
We have coal and gas up the gigi (whatever that old expression means) and I still can`t get NG because it`s 4 houses up the street from me (360 ft away)

up the yingyang

Ha,ha,ha. You mean up Ying and Yangs gigi?

I read in Hearth and Home magazine that California is giving people simialr incentives to put gas logs into their fireplaces, instead of burning wood. They are trying to cut down on the pollution from burning wood.

The 25% rebate is not all it's cracked up to be. Minimal stoves around to buy, even fewer trained tech's to install them or help with questions. I went in to 1 local stove supplier that only had a floor model Dr. Oulet and they have never installed any Pellet stove!. Also the pellet supply is currently very low. We are supposed to get a plant on the Island soon but still no word as to when.

If you are talking about NL island? We were talking to the new mill (Cottlesville) and they were just getting their equipment ready for testing about 2 weeks ago. I also heard the new mill will have the stores stocked by the last of the month.
I hope so. It would be good to see them do well. Lots of demand that's for sure.

If I'm not mistaken, Canada has a higher-tax, higher service government (more like governments in Europe) than we have here in the US. I think that's why our government has fewer incentives like this. (Yes I know about all the recent bail-outs - but those are rare and to help an economic emergency). Americans tend to prefer a lower tax, lower service system. I am not saying here that one way or the other is better, just making an observation.

We do. The 700B bailout bill passed this fall included a tax credit for pellet stove buyers who bought before the end of the year. They passed a supplemental bill a couple of weeks ago that extended that to stoves bought next year too. Search the forum it's been discussed a couple of times already.

hmm just how far back do I need to go to find said info??

Thanks DiggerJim Looks like a few more peeps were interested in this info as well.
