Just so I understand this, your stove top temps were OK but the flue was too cool because of the short chimney?

Good to know as other people have reported the same issue and have looked for answers.

Maybe I'm a bit slow, but how would a longer flue give you a warmer chimney?

If I am correct the extra draft warms the chimney more than the short one.
