Usually light up when it's 30's or lower at night, 40's or lower during the day. We were running it 24/7 for a couple weeks until the recent warm spell.

We have our stove in the basement (finished family room), and maybe it's psychological, but it SEEMS to get too hot down there when the daytime temps outside get above 50 or so. We struggle to get the hot air circulating upstairs better...

I don't go by outside temperature.
My Mom is 74 yrs old and is ill so
if she's cold, the pellet stove gets lit.

Regardless of the outside temperature, fire your stove when you want heat.

When you want a little heat, burn a smaller fuel load hot.

When you want a lot of heat, burn a large fuel load hot.

When the outside temperature is warmer (mid 40's ---> 50's), beware of the dreaded downdraft (remember, it's the 'temperature differential' inside/outside that primarily determines your draft).

Aye,
Marty

Mine is fired 50 or under.
