Also note because of how the railing is designed, when you bolt them together the corners have a larger opening. A small child could in fact slip through that opening. Therefore, I used the balusters seen below (had some leftover from another project) to fill in the gap. Essentially, I cut them to length so they could be slid up and over the threaded section of the top rail bolt and when dropped, would rest on the head of the bottom rail bolt. To remove them, you would lift up and off the bottom rail bolt head, then slide it down and off of the top rail bolt threads. Hard to explain--hopefully that makes sense.
