It is fused silicas and minerals picked up by the tree(s) over their lifespan. Some areas have more of these deposits than others. We also burn some thick (>2") fir bark which is supposed to contain a lot. Add enough heat and they fuse. In the T6 I notice that the big clinker forms dead center with only ash on both sides. That matches the secondary pattern and aligns with the boost manifold.

The one on the left is one of the biggest that I have ever found. The one on the right was almost as big but not as thick. This was the first week that it was finally cold enough to load up the stove. Now we just need some snow! We only have a dusting from Tuesday morning.

Interesting. I have started getting them for the first time in the past month. They stick hard to the firebrick. I've been burning dead standing red oak, no bark. Seems to be well seasoned. Well, there were a couple of trees that were down on the ground, not sure if those are the ones I'm burning now.

I'm afraid to try to break them loose from the firebrick, afraid that I will break the brick.

    I've never seen this before.

A LOT more room in the stove, plus the neighborhood kids have something to play on.

Damn, I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong, I'm lucky to get a few hours out of burning a piece of wood.

This site impresses me in so many ways. I asked a question on here last night , received some answers this morning (about clinkers as i turns out), did an image search on google for some of the info i received here, and look where I end up. Just brilliant.

Google tracks your online search history (and browsing history if you use Google's browser) and gives you results tailored to your habits, so its not surprising when Google search results lead you to websites you already frequent.

Very cunning I have heard that before. And notice a lot of ads on youtube, facebook etc are all centered around my hobbies and obviously searches ive keyed into google.. mountain bikes, wood stoves, drums.

Was none too happy finding out about that myself awhile ago. So switched searches to another engine which uses google but blocks the tracking.
