New to the forums and woodburning...just wondering if it is possible to burn coal in a hampton wood insert....Thanks

It might burn, and it might also destroy the stove if its not made for coal.

Have you read the Owner's Manual?

If it says, NO BURNING COAL, than the answer is no.

If it says "Intended Fuels: Wood and Coal"

Then you're good to go.

Silly question. As a future Hampton owner i have read that the Hampton is NOT rated to burn coal. My question is what is the difference between burning coal and wood? Is coal that much hotter?

sry to sound like a n00b, but....ima n00b. ;)

Yes, much hotter, and it requires a different air supply, grate system to burn well.

Yes coal requires quite a few different design elements compared to wood.

Just like a square is a rectangle but a rectangle isn't a square, a coal stove can be a wood stove, but a wood stove isn't a coal stove.
