Question:

I have a home w/2100 sq feet not including basement. I'm considering an insert or stove due to an interest to utilize the basement. Your study of wood compared to pellets suggests that the cost for pellets is greater. on the other hand- pellets are less an environmental problem. at home depot we saw a Model 25PI; what alternative stoves are available w/pricing? Is the pellet stove the best alternative? thank you for your response.

Answer:

Pellets are usually priced higher than wood . In addition, Pellet stoves require electric to work- make noise and need service regularly...a wood stove or Gas stove can be a better solution..if you live close to a Pellet Mill and can get Pellets cheap (less than 125/ton)- then it may be worth considering.
In any case, be careful buying a Pellet Stove from any store like Home Depot..a lot of info and service is needed and a smaller dealer may be able to provide fuller services in this regard.
