Backpack09, would it be ok if I zip tied it to the break line in the last picture above the axle? I did check the break lines tonight and everything was fine.

As long as it's higher than the differential, plus a couple of inches, it should be O.K. If you could tie it to a frame member, so much the better. The higher; the better....


Is that on the Jeep?

That rust is amazing. The diff vent tube originally was attached to the driver's side frame rail with a little plastic fitting on the end to try and keep water out. Some vehicles, toyota trucks, have no hose at all and the diff is vented through a simple little fitting designed to slow down water from splashing in.

Imagine backing into the water to launch a boat. Hot diff cools rapidly as you submerge it and that vent sucks in air or water from the outside. You want that diff vent high if you ever see water. No water? Don't worry too much about it.
