Does anyone know if you have to use the special gasket that is wrapped in some sore of wire mesh? Or can I get away with just using regular gasket? I would think the only benefit of the special gasket is longer lasting. Any thoughts?

Hello CT,

The good people at MHSC and Vermont Castings say:

Gasket Diameter ...And the Parts it Seals
5/16” The griddle to the stove top
(wire reinforced gasket)

As shown in the latest Owner's Manual, on the VC website.

Yes, the griddle gasket takes a lot of wear and tear, never mind folks like me bumping splits, rounds even tools into it. Besides looking in there way too much!!!

It has a tough environment to live in. I better order a spare also! Thanks for the reminder.
