After my weekly cleaning, the power went out in my Harman Accentra Insert during start up. The pellets dropped into the burnpot and were ignited (Auto ignitor), but then burned out in a few minutes. All the lights on the insert were out. I tried a reset (unplug) but that didn't help. After searching the forum, I speculated that it might be igniter, so I pulled the insert out and inspected all of the wires which looked fine. I replaced the fuse and disconnected the igniter wires, but left it attached. I then put the igniter on manual and plugged it back in. The power light came back on so I turned it on and lit the pellets manually. Its been working great all morning so I believe the problem was the ignitor. I'm waiting to hear from my dealer, so this is a stop gap measure.

My question to you guys is what is the best way to bypass the ignitor if it caused the fuse to blow? Did I have to disconnect the wires? Would setting the ignitor to Manual have sufficed?

thanks

Pat

setting the switch to manual will bypass the ignitor...the trick, really is figuring out where the short is. the ignitor has some spade connecters that have a plastic sheathing, if that is too close to the burnpot, they melt and short against the pot, or the connecting point for the ignitor wires to the ignitor is shorting, those are the most common one IMO.

When you did your cleaning, did you pull the ignitor out of the burn pot? If so you may have gotten one of the wires caught in between the inside of the burn pot and the ignitor craddle. That would certainly cause it to short out as well.

Thank you that worked well. I reconnected the wires and set the igniter to manual. When I plugged it back in, the fuse did not blow. Now the stove is running and we're good while we are waiting for the dealer.

There were burn spots on one of the plastic connector covers.

During my weekly cleaning, I don't touch the igniter. I do clean the ignitor chamber.

Thanks again.
