Question:

I BUILT A HOME IN 1977 THAT HAD A "HEATFORM", METAL FIREBOX WITHIN A MASONRY FIREPLACE. IT HAD A GRILLE ABOVE THE FIREPLACE OPENING THAT ALLOWED THE HEATED AIR CIRCULATING INSIDE THE METAL JACKET TO ESCAPE INTO THE ROOM. I INSTALLED FANS IN THE INTAKE OPENINGS WHICH MADE THIS FIREPLACE A REAL HEATER IN THE WINTERTIME. IT WORKED VERY WELL AND SINCE THEN I HAVE BUILT ANOTHER HOME. BUT WHEN BUILDING THIS HOME I WAS UNABLE TO FIND THE HEATFORM FIREBOX. THE COMPANY WAS GONE AND I JUST COULDN'T FIND A SUPPLIER ANYWHERE. I THINK THE COMPANY'S NAME WAS "SUPERIOR". I EVEN HAD SOME LITERATURE ON IT AT THE TIME. DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PRODUCT AND IF IT IS STILL AVAILABLE?

Answer:

There are a few companies that make this sort of heat form. It is simply a steel shell which you build masonry around. This shell also contains the damper and damper frame. Besides the advantage of the heat circulation, you also do not have to do the usual interior firebrick part of the fireplace.
