Helped a friend drop this big old tree today, the wood is light and seems dry, should be good for fall.

Looks like catalpa (Catalpa speciosa) - whorled leaf arrangement, cocoa-colored heartwood, interesting aroma when fresh cut, and distinctive "cigar"-like fruit, but . . .
toward the bottom of the BTU chart.
Catalpa hornworm that feed on leaves makes for good fishin' bait.

Are those leaves really big, as in bigger than your hand? If so, catalpa.

Shame he dropped it now, shoulda waited a week or so for it to bloom. I have one in my front yard, they get covered with white blossoms around this time of year. Really pretty. Whole bunch of buds on mine, should be opening up any day now.

My first thought was cherry, but not if those leaves are hand size!
