How many times do you open this forum and start reading about other peoples scrounges then immediately jump over to Craigs List? I do it every time, and sometimes do it even if I had already checked CL.
I have an RSS feed for the free stuff section "firewood" plus I check the free section just about every time I'm on the computer. I also run a listing about e/o month to take your tree for free although usually it's people that need a pro but want somebody to do it for free.
Today I'm heading back out to a lady's property that responded to me on CL, still have 4 more large sugar maples to bring home.
I can have enough firewood, but I'll never have too much!
I'm not looking much these days. I just scored BIG a few days ago from a tree service contracted by the state to cut and trim along a road very close to my home. They delivered about 40 tons of red oak, red and silver maple. In addition, the horse farm next door to me is allowing me to take all the wood I want from trees they had pushed down for expansion of their fields. If that's not cool enough, the farm is paying me to cut several dead standing ash, cherry and a couple of oaks. No point driving 5 or 6 or more miles when I can hook the wagon to the Kubota and drop over the hill onto the farm at my leisure. Shoot man, the farm will even let me use their splitter! But I must say, my limbs get all a twitter when I do see a good scrounge close by. I'm a sick man!
