My neighbor, great guy, has health issues that came up just recently. He had cut up and split about 8 cord earlier this year. Then developed his problems.

All of us neighbors and friends showed up at 12 noon and moved the pile of wood. Moved it across the yard and threw it down cellar and stacked it up. The cellar was cramped, but it was all done in under 2 hours. Approx 24 people were involved(14 above ground and 10 below) i was a cellar rat, but it was fun. It would have made a hell of a good beer commercial. Makes a person feel good doing sh!t like that. Walked out of the cellar and cracked open a brew at 1:50! That my friends, is what life is all about.

helping people that really need it make you feel great.

Yes, that's impressive. You all done a real damn good thing. Good fer you! Rick

just gave some wood to a neighbor over at the house where i get to store my piles. guy has been out of work for a couple of months and needed some wood. did feel pretty good.

The feeling good thing is a bonus, but it's what should be done, and you ddin't do it to "feel good". The term "paying it forward" is a very good thing to follow, and you may have started it. And this is part of it.

Nice job. It's a great feeling knowing you helped someone in need!

The fact that all of you got together to do this is a very good thing. I'd say your neighbor has very good choice in friends & family.

I bet everyone was feeling good afterwards !

I so, so agree with pay it forward. I don't think you can go wrong when you do that.

But seriously....this is all about the bragging of putting in at least 8 cords in under 2 hours. Pretty cool. Anyways...no matter how you do it, burning wood is really satisfying.

reminds me of local farmers. If you ever wanna see something amazing, come watch a handful of farmers bring all their combines and trucks to help out another when death or severe illness prevents harvest. (if you know a farmer, then you know what i mean when i say death or severe illness. Takes a heck of a lot to keep a real farmer from his crops during harvest time)

Socialism is when you spend other people's money.

Socialism is when you spend other people's money.

It's when you spend the group's money/resources, which are held collectively, specifically by the state. Your roads and parks are socialism.

Awesome stuff.

Need to teach some of the people in the nj/ny area how to act like that. If that could be done, well hell, there
might be hope for the world after all.

Well done Bro.
Best wishes for your neighbor

...'many hands make work light'. Good for you and your neighbors flyingcow for helping a brother in distress.

Nice job FyingCow - I think it's somewhat of a rarity these days to find good neighbors.

It's fantastic that the community is so inclined to help a neighbor out and can get together at one time to work it out. That's a shining example of what can go right with humanity. Thanks for sharing. It was a lot of wood to move but the greater effort was in moving the wills to move the wood. Great effort. Great results! As stated "the way it should be". +!

Most of my neighbors keep to themselves. I have people that live all around me that I havn't met in the 6 years that I've lived here! However, the people that we do know are wonderful neighbors.

I received my first lesson in this sort of thing when I was still quite young; probably around age 10. A farmer had a heart attack suddenly and passed away. The wheat had just been combined and they were ready to bale the straw. A huge assembly of neighbors all came together, including us young folk, and it was amazing how fast the straw was baled. Not only that, but even before the balers came, neighbors were out cutting the second cutting of hay, which amounted to about 60 acres.

Needless to say, hay and straw bales were flying for a couple of days. Everyone had a grand time including the ladies who all gathered to make the meals to feed everyone.

I know for sure that the widow was really shocked and amazed and thankful to everyone. This, ladies and gentlemen, is how things should work even today. Neighbors helping neighbors when help is needed.

Thanks for the posting.

Likewise. Most, with one exception, don't burn wood either. The exception is one impoverished neighbor who's poverty is self imposed and I don't meddle. I think it might be some church group that goes over there and cuts her some firewood which she burns green judging by the stink that wafts over this way.

. . .

I'm also thinking it's "A County" thing . . . if you've never been to Aroostook County you just wouldn't understand . . . I don't think I've ever met a group of people as giving and friendly as the folks in the County -- which is why this is my favorite place to ride my snowmobile, ATV, camp, etc.

Too bad it takes death or illness to get a bunch of neighbors to work together. But, I suppose it's also nice to know that in the event of death or illness, they will help.

I was remiss in saying this guy would always stop and help you if you needed it. That was a very important part in the story. May explain why everyone was called( by a good friend of his) at 3pm fri. and 24 or so people showed up at noon sat.
