Hi; I chose the super 27 for a couple of reasons for my cottage, not the least of which was the fact I could put it within 4" of the drywall in the corner install I'm planning (its going to replace the 32" TV in the corner here). As you can see its going over hardwood so I need a hearth. The store I went to (Flame and Comfort in Winnipeg) suggested a 60" (along both walls) pre-built pad that appears to be 3/4" plywood with tile on top; for $450.00. I saw am immediate problem with that since its only about 45" along the left side to the patio door so I think I need to custom build something, the other was cost, I think that I can build something like (or better than) they have for waaaay less than $450.
Or am I missing something?
I know the super 27 has baffles on the back and sides to allow it to get close to the walls (and I'm going to use double stove pipe) but what about the bottom clearance and R value issues, they didn't mention a word about any of that?

No R value with the PE's. All you need is ember protection...tile is fine, and you can build your own to save $$

I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with the "Soopah 27"!
Legs or pedestal? Did you get the ash dump?
BTW, if you don't mind me asking, what did Flame & Comfort charge for the stove you bought, before taxes?

I agree with Gunner, Just install ceramic tile on the floor in the area recommended.
If your stove is on a pedestal, don't forget to knock out the knockout in the back of the pedestal if you are using room air.
If using an outside air kit, just cut a round hole in the floor anywhere under the pedestal.

would you recommend the ash draw? I was thinking of going with the legs and no ash drawer. And since its only a couple of ft from an outside wall I was going to add the outside air; is that a good idea? Blower. should I cough up the $250 (ish) for that?

fwiw...I have checked out all the major players in the city and like dealing with Flame and Comfort the best, easy to talk to, happy to provide a quote, answered all my questions (and I come up will a few every week from watching this forum :) )

You will definately want the ash dump.
Legs or pedistal is a matter of personal taste. The blower can always be added later if you want...but I hate any extra noise.

No prob, it actually shows up better when I hit the "quote" button to make my post.
$1207 sounds like a good price for the stove. Just for kicks, check out Home Hardware or Crappy tire for the insulated chimney, it might be cheaper.

My personal preference is to go with the pedestal. It is a bit cheaper, and it hides the hard to get to area of floor that would otherwise show with the legs.
With the pedestal, the outside air kit can be made to be invisible as it can be put straight down thru the floor into the crawlspace then out the wall.
If you get the ASH sys. with the pedestal, you'll get a big ash drawer, as well as the lever-operated hatch. That's what I bought, and I'm happy with it.
I think the ash drawer for the stoves with legs is smaller, if that's a concern.

As far as the blower goes, I'd try it without first. As Gunner said, you can always buy the blower later if you think it needs one. Another option would be to buy 2 of those ECOFAN plus fans from
Crappy Tire, if you find they don't help they'll take them back and give you back your money.

Kenora,

I just installed a similar stove in a corner. (Alderlea T-5)

Have you made a template of your stove (24x24) to see where it will end up - in relation to the patio door? You may be surprised by just how much the 27 will stick out of that corner.

Just a thought.

Edit: The left hand corner of mine is 39 inches away from the right hand wall. Theoretically, this would leave you with around 6 -8 inches (my stove is not right on min) to the door opening.
